NHR is sharing a campus energy-monitoring application in Taiwan that helps university facility managers break electricity use down to the circuit level and surface the waste hidden inside whole-building totals.
From building totals to circuit-level visibility
Electricity use across a campus is highly dispersed, yet administrators typically see only whole-building meter readings. Air conditioning and lighting left running after class, or equipment idling through weekends, cannot be pinned to any specific room — and abnormal consumption often surfaces only during billing reviews or inspection rounds.
The NHR solution clamps NCT-series CT current sensors onto individual circuits inside the distribution panels of a pilot teaching building, measuring air conditioning, lighting, and outlet circuits separately, with S09 smart wireless transmitters reporting the data to the cloud — no new network cabling required. The platform consolidates real-time readings and historical trends for every circuit, and when abnormal patterns appear, such as sustained loads outside teaching hours, an alert prompts the facility team to investigate.
Giving energy decisions a data foundation
After deployment, circuit-level consumption became individually visible for the first time: which classroom's air conditioning was still running at night, and which equipment category drove the peak load, all unpacked from the single building total. Peak loads and abnormal consumption turned into charts anyone could read, and hidden power waste surfaced at last.
The university has since shifted from broad awareness campaigns to targeted actions — rescheduling high-consumption circuits, prioritizing equipment with abnormal usage, and validating each measure against actual consumption curves, making the case for further energy investments far more convincing.
