Closing the overnight monitoring gap
Vertical farms grow leafy greens on densely stacked racks, and any drift in nutrient-solution pH, water temperature, air temperature and humidity, or lighting shows up directly in growth and quality. This farm had managed largely by experience: staff noted readings by hand during the day, nobody patrolled overnight, and a nutrient problem often surfaced only the next morning — after the window for corrective action had passed.
The farm deployed S09 smart wireless transmitters across the growing tiers and nutrient circulation system, each host serving multiple probes and measuring around the clock, with readings sent to the cloud over LoRaWAN. Every parameter has its own safe range on the platform: readings approaching a threshold trigger a push notification, and crossings raise an immediate alarm, so the on-call operator can step in even at night.
From experience-based to data-driven growing
The overnight monitoring gap — previously six to eight hours — has dropped to zero. Anomalies are notified and handled the moment they occur, whatever the hour, and the risk of losing a batch has fallen accordingly.
With environmental records fully automated, report-compilation time has been cut by roughly half. The team now compares conditions across batches on complete historical curves, steadily converging on more stable production settings and more consistent output quality.
