NHR is highlighting an NB-IoT smart street lighting deployment in Taiwan that helps a municipal operator centrally manage switching, dimming, and energy use across a distributed lighting network.
Bringing scattered assets into one system
Street lights are among a municipality's most distributed assets. Under traditional management, switching depended on timers, faults were found through night patrols and citizen reports, and the electricity bill showed only a total — leaving energy-saving dimming plans on paper for lack of data.
The NHR solution installs NB-IoT lighting controllers at the pole level for remote switching and dimming, with schedules that lower brightness automatically during low-traffic late-night hours. S10 utility-meter nodes report per-circuit consumption, and the IoTView platform maps the live status of every lamp and circuit, raising threshold-based alerts for faults, offline devices, and abnormal consumption.
Energy structure visible for the first time
Per-circuit lighting consumption became individually visible for the first time, with peak load and abnormal usage presented visually instead of a single meter total. Dark or failing lamps are now flagged proactively by the system rather than waiting for citizen reports, so repairs start sooner.
Dimming schedules are refined step by step against actual consumption trends, giving energy-saving decisions a data basis for the first time and turning conservation into a continuous, evidence-backed improvement.
