NHR is highlighting a lone-worker safety monitoring deployment for tunnel operations in Taiwan, giving the control center real-time awareness of solo maintenance staff instead of waiting for scheduled check-ins.
Active detection instead of waiting for reports
Tunnels are long, enclosed spaces with unreliable communication, and much of the night-time maintenance work is carried out alone. When a worker fell or became trapped, the incident was typically discovered only after a check-in was missed — losing the most valuable response time.
The NHR solution equips lone workers with wearable devices: the M20 tilt sensor continuously measures posture changes on three axes to recognize falls and prolonged abnormal posture, while the compact T20 BLE tracker broadcasts at configurable intervals as the basis for presence and connection status. Both run on battery power, so no additional cabling was needed inside the tunnel.
Immediate alerts and a continuous safety record
Falls, abnormal posture, and loss-of-connection events all feed the alerting flow, letting the control center make contact or dispatch support at once. Worker incidents moved from "discovered when a check-in is missed" to minute-level alerts, sharply narrowing the response gap around solo work.
Stored event and movement records also turned safety reviews from verbal reconstruction into data-based analysis, informing adjustments to procedures and staffing — working alone no longer means being invisible.
