NHR is sharing a smart parking application in Hong Kong, where embedded sensing helped a public parking initiative bring selected non-metered curbside spaces into real-time digital visibility.
An information blank at the curb
With land scarce and parking supply permanently tight, metered spaces at least leave a usage trail through the payment process — but non-metered curbside spaces had long been an information blank: no system knew which space held a vehicle, how long it had stayed, or when it turned over. Manual patrols were inefficient, and long-stay or improper use could not be caught in time.
The NHR solution embeds a P02 parking sensor within the pavement of each selected space, flush with the road surface and with no impact on vehicle movement or road operations. The sensor detects vehicle presence through magnetic-field changes and reports wirelessly, needing no external power or cabling — and scaling up simply means adding sensors at further spaces under the same platform.
Making the spaces visible for the first time
The platform consolidates live space states into a map view that public information services can connect to, while managers gain each space's occupancy duration and history, with alerts for situations such as long-stay occupation. Routine patrol hours for these spaces fell by roughly a third, awareness of irregularities shifted from passively received reports to real-time alerts, and occupancy and turnover now accumulate as objective data — a decision basis that simply did not exist before, supporting space-allocation reviews and wider rollout.
