NHR is highlighting an early-warning application in Indonesia where connected water-level sensing gives local teams a more consistent view of flood risk near the Kreo River.
Continuous observation in vulnerable locations
Mangkang, near Semarang, has experienced serious flooding during periods of heavy rain. NHR worked with local IoT service teams on a monitoring approach that combines water-level sensors, wireless communication, and the SmartSense platform.
Sensors were installed at selected locations around drainage channels and manholes. Their readings are transmitted to a central dashboard where users can review conditions and track changes over time. The platform can present sensor status at 30-minute intervals and issue warnings when configured thresholds are exceeded.
Information for earlier response and long-term planning
The system provides local stakeholders with current information when water levels begin to rise. At the same time, recorded data gives water authorities a stronger basis for studying patterns and reviewing how the river and drainage network behave under different conditions.
Flood protection depends on physical infrastructure, operating procedures, and timely information. This project demonstrates how IoT monitoring can support that wider system by making changes visible earlier and helping responsible teams focus their response.
