NHR Space-Level Sensing Puts Curbside Enforcement in Singapore on an Evidence-Backed Footing

NHR is highlighting a smart curbside application in a high-demand parking zone in Singapore, helping an urban parking operator depend less on walking patrols while making compliance management real-time and citations easier to substantiate.

Visible spaces, vehicle-linked events

Curbside spaces in a high-density city turn over fast, and illegal or overstay parking disrupts traffic flow and street-side commerce as much as it inconveniences other drivers. The operator had managed the zone through walking patrols: occupancy was invisible, and citations were routinely challenged, driving up the cost of handling appeals. The NHR solution installs an on-ground smart parking sensor at each space, reporting occupancy state and duration over NB-IoT without major road excavation. On key road sections, low-pole edge-analytics cameras capture still images when an event triggers, linking each occupancy event to the vehicle involved as an evidence-backed record. The platform maps every space in real time with its status and occupancy duration, flags probable violations by rule, and notifies enforcement staff to respond on site.

Targeted response replaces street sweeps

After deployment, enforcement shifted from sweeping streets in search of violations to responding to specific alerts, and routine patrol hours fell by roughly a third, with exceptions surfacing as real-time system alerts rather than passive reports. Space-level usage data forms a complete, analyzable record for the first time: sensing records and images correspond, reducing ticketing disputes and appeal costs while supporting turnover reviews and rate-strategy adjustments.
