NHR is highlighting a smart curbside application in an urban transit zone in Taiwan, helping a road management agency detect bus bay occupation earlier so that limited enforcement staff appear only where an event genuinely requires it.
Detect first, respond second
When a private vehicle occupies a bus bay, the arriving bus is forced to stop in the traffic lane and passengers weave between cars to board, hurting punctuality and safety at once. The agency had depended on heavy patrolling and citizen reports, and by the time an officer arrived the offending vehicle was usually gone, leaving little deterrent effect. The NHR solution installs occupancy sensors across the zone's bus bays — an in-ground design sitting flush with the road surface that withstands daily bus traffic rolling over it. Data returns over NB-IoT, and platform rules are configured per stop and time window: a bay continuously occupied beyond the set threshold during service hours is flagged as a probable violation and raises an immediate alert, sending officers to a specific location to confirm and respond.
Fewer patrols, data-driven enforcement
After deployment, awareness of bay occupation shifted from passive reports and chance patrol encounters to real-time system alerts, and routine patrol hours fell by roughly a third — keeping order at the stops no longer depends on walking more rounds. Bay occupancy across the zone also forms a complete, analyzable record for the first time, letting the agency identify high-risk stops and time windows and concentrate enforcement and public-communication resources where they matter most.
