NHR is highlighting a smart parking application in Taiwan, where AI plate-recognition cameras helped a mechanical parking tower operator replace ticket-and-logbook entry management with a fully traceable digital record.

From hand-copied plates to edge recognition

Mechanical parking towers pack many vehicles into a small urban footprint, and operations lean heavily on equipment and process. The operator previously copied and checked plates by hand — error-prone work with no way to match arrivals against blocklists or unpaid-fee lists in real time — and the only operational data left behind was gate revenue, leaving exceptions and disputes hard to reconstruct. The NHR solution places edge AI recognition cameras at the tower's entry and exit points: the plate is recognized and a scene image captured the moment a vehicle pulls in. Integrated with the tower's dispatch system, every entry and exit is automatically linked to its tower, bay, and timestamp, building a complete cloud parking record with list matching and alerts handled by the system.

Less verification work, analyzable operations

After deployment, time spent on entry/exit verification and routine checking fell by roughly a third, moving staff away from copying plates and digging through records toward on-site service and exception handling. The tower's usage data forms a complete, analyzable record for the first time: any parking event can be traced back quickly, and the operator reviews peak and off-peak patterns as a reference for operational adjustments.
