Problem

Museums, archives, and exhibition spaces are highly sensitive to humidity and temperature swings. Relative humidity that runs too high or too low, or rapid temperature changes, can accelerate deterioration across different materials — and for fiber, pigment, or wood, that deterioration is rarely reversible; restoration can slow it down but can't return a piece to its original state, and the shift is usually caught only at the next scheduled inspection. Environmental records also matter for exhibitions, loans, insurance, and conservation audits.

In this case, the operating team had to protect the collection while also respecting the building's own historic value, which ruled out fixed cabling, wall drilling, or large-scale construction to build a monitoring system. The site needed a climate-monitoring approach that could deploy quickly, log continuously, and leave the building's fabric untouched.

Solution

Wireless coverage, not a single nail in the wall

The team deployed STH-01 temperature and humidity sensors across exhibition spaces and storage rooms, continuously measuring ambient temperature and relative humidity and relaying data to a central monitoring platform. Because the deployment was wireless, coverage could expand without adding fixed wiring or disturbing walls or display areas.

When readings moved outside preset preservation thresholds, the platform issued an alert so the museum and conservation team could respond to anomalies sooner, with historical logs supporting internal reviews, preservation reports, and environmental tracking around object loans.

The museum now pulls up a preservation curve built year over year instead of a single reading.
